ML@40 Concert: Remembering the Struggle and its Songs

The ML@40 concert remembered Martial Law, forty years after its declaration, on 21 September 2012, at the AS Lobby, CSSP, UP Diliman. The concert remembers the Martial Law period through the enduring power of songs that the people keep in their hearts and minds. It reminded us to guard against and fight the forces that brought about Martial Law 40 years ago, and that we must continue to sing as we fight.

Martial Law and post-Martial Law singer-songwriters and performers included Jess Santiago, Pol Galang, Sazi Cosino, Jes Bartolome, Arnel (Glenn) Torres, Benjie Torralba, Tony Palis, Addie Santos Saliva, Lean Alejandro Choir, and others. “And all meet in singing, which braids together the different knowings into a wide and subtle music, the music of the living”* – and of the free.

The concert was a joint project of Tbak Pilipinas, #rememberML@40, Task Force Detainess Philippines, CSSP-UP Diliman, Dekada 80 Boks, The Nameless collective, and other organizations.
